Factors That Effect Swift Fox
Swift Foxes have become endangered for many reasons; at the moment there are about 700 Swift Foxes in the wild in Canada. To start off with, prairie farmers are planting crops where the Swift Fox live, causing them to lose their habitat – Swift Fox can’t run through the farmers’ tall crops and grasses to catch their prey. Another reason they have become endangered is because programs that are trying to kill coyotes, ground squirrels, and wolves are accidentally shooting, trapping, or poisoning Swift Fox. Also they have many predators like bobcats, eagles, badgers and mainly coyotes that are killing large amounts of Swift Fox. Lastly, climate change is also affecting Swift Fox; dry summers and cold winters with lots of snow cut down the number of prey that the swift foxes can hunt, and cause them to die of starvation.
